WHAT WE BELIEVE

OUR CHRISTIAN CHURCH BELIEFS

At the McMinnville Potter’s House Christian Church, we understand there are many brands of Christian churches. For those wondering “what good Christian churches are near me”, you have found a church that believes, teaches, and applies God’s Living Word in our lives, fellowship, Christian services, worship and principles.

The McMinnville Potter’s House Christian Church seeks to replicate the very first church which you can read about in “The Book of Acts.” (Bible)  We seek to base all we do on Biblical truth, and to live directed in ways God intends His children to live— free from captivity and bondage; filled with hope, peace and joy, knowing and trusting Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

The foundation of this McMinnville worship community Christian church believes and lives by:

One God in Three Persons

There is only one God and He is eternally existent in Three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

God Our Creator

God is the Creator of the universe. (Read Genesis 1 & 2)  He created man in His own image for fellowship and called man back to Himself through Christ after the rebellion and  fall of mankind.

Jesus, Son of Man, Son of God

Jesus Christ is eternally God. Jesus was together with the Father and the Holy Spirit from the beginning, and through Him all things were made. He left Heaven and became a human child conceived by the Holy Spirit, born to a young virgin girl named Mary.   It was prophesied that He would come in Isaiah 7:14, hundreds of years before. “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel (meaning God with us.)”

The Power of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is God, the Lord, and Giver of Life. He was active in the Old Testament, and given to the Church in fullness at Pentecost.  “When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. . . all of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”  Acts 2

He empowers His people for service and witness, and HELPS us to desire to be like Jesus Christ as we look to Him and depend upon Him.  .

Baptism in the Holy Spirit

Our Christian Fellowship community church believes in the Baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, following conversion. This releases the fullness of the Spirit and is evidenced by boldness to speak for Him as well as to live a life graced by  the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22,23 // “There are different kinds of gifts. But they are all given to believers by the same Spirit…”   l Corinthians 12:4-11

Belief in the Word of God as Written in the Bible

The Bible contains the Old and New Testaments and is the only unfailing, inspired Word of God. Its authority is ultimate, final, and eternal. It cannot be added to, subtracted from, or superseded in any regard. The Bible is the source of all doctrine, instruction, correction, and reproof. It contains all that is needed for guidance in godliness and practical Christian conduct.  “All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16

His Precious Gift for Us

Christ’s death – in our place upon the cross – paid the penalty for the sins of the whole world. Through His ultimate sacrifice and shedding of His blood for us (or atonement) we receive the gift of forgiveness,  a new nature, and healing in the body, soul and spirit.

Salvation

Salvation is a free gift of God, based on the merits of the death of Jesus Christ, and is received by each individual by a simple act faith.  (I believe!) Salvation is affected by personal repentance, (literally turning away from sin and rebellion, humbly asking forgiveness) belief in the Lord Jesus (He legally removes any trace of sin on your personal record) and your soul is reconnected to God by His Spirit (being born-again.)

The Christian Life is Progress

The Christian life is to be one of honesty, humility, and clean living. There is supernatural help available to us from the Holy Spirit for our shortcomings and stumblings;  we can walk this narrow pathway of our pilgrimage on earth overcoming!. The Christian life is filled with trials, tests, and warfare against a spiritual enemy. For those living daily in Christ until our final breath, (or His return,) the promises of eternal life in the presence of God – HEAVEN –  are promised to us.

The Body of Christ

Our Community Christian Church believes we are to be the “Body of Christ.”   “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.” 1 Corinthians 12:12

We are to be His hands, His feet, His voice expressed in the earth. Every believer has a place and a purpose in the church;  Christ is working through our individual lives, talents, and passions as we live to serve and help others.

Baptism

Water Baptism is the outward sign of what God has already done in our lives and is a public testimony that we now belong to Christ. We believe this means total immersion in water as a public testimony and  declaration of our faith in Him; that we identify with the death and resurrection of Jesus. We are burying our old life and rising again to a new clean life to please Him. Our church meets during a special time at the end of Sunday evening services throughout the year where we gather for food and fellowship and participate in this joyful event.  (special presentation we provide:: a corrigated steel horse-trough filled with warm water and a wireless microphone!)

Communion

We share together in “The Lord’s Supper” once a year, either the Wednesday before Passover or on Easter morning.  We break unleavened bread and grape juice, pray and ask for healing in relationships as we partake together. This reminds us of the death of the Lord Jesus, whose body was broken and whose blood was shed for us.  We will be doing this yearly until He comes again; it is a sign of our love and appreciation of Him.

The Second Coming

“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.  After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the LORD in the air. And so shall we ever be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.”  (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18) This local Christian Church believes in the bodily, personal, second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, the resurrection of the saints, the millennium, and the final judgment. The final judgment will determine the eternal status of both the saints and the unbelievers, determined by their relationship to Jesus Christ.
